Monrovia, California
Monrovia is a city of about 40,000 people, just below the San Gabriel Mountains, and about eight miles east of Pasadena. Monrovia was incorporated in 1887, making it the fourth oldest city in Los Angeles County. It has its own police and fire departments, and the well-regarded Monrovia Unified School District.
Monrovia loves its historic architecture and small town character. The center and pride of the city is Old Town, where you'll find boutique shops, restaurants and a movie theater, all in charming and historic buildings. The Monrovia Historical Museum is housed in a 1925 Spanish-style building. And, there are over 140 historic landmarks in the city. The Aztec Hotel, on the National Register of Historic Places, is on Foothill Blvd., part of the Old Route 66.
Favorite Monrovia events include the Friday Night Family Street Fair, Monrovia Days Community Festival in May, the Fourth of July Celebration and Fireworks, and the Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting.
